What Can We Give?

Giving

We give a little happiness when we smile.
We give a little hope when we listen patiently.
We give a gentle message with our tender touch.
We give some confidence with our friendly nudge.

We give a little kindness when we pay attention.
We give strength through our words of wisdom.
We give respect by communicating honestly.
We give love through our forgiving nature.

We give a little positivity by showering selfless love.
We give a little encouragement by believing them.
We give amity through our calm demeanor.
We give civility when we are courteous.

We add sunshine to somebody’s life
With all these gifts of love
We can become a part of those exhilarating moments
Only those who believe in giving can experience that thrill.

  1. This is a wonderful, uplifting poem for this festive and joyous season. A little positivity and kindness can go a long way – bit of that can shine a bright light on someone and give them hope once again. “gifts of love”, indeed. These emotions and actions can certainly mean the difference to someone, and perhaps at some point on they might care to do the same for others as well.

Best wishes for this time of the year, Balroop. Take care 🙂

    1. Hi Mabel,

Thank you for sending me the alert, I rarely check my spam folder.
Also many thanks for appreciating the emotions connected with this poem…all these gifts are so easy to give and go a long way to add sunshine to the life of others. Yes we surely learn from each other.

Wishing you wonderful holidays and lots of happiness. 🙂

      1. Thanks so much for that, Balroop 🙂 “all these gifts are so easy to give”. Yes, so true and we should remember that. They often don’t take much effort.

        Stay blessed and keep writing.

  2. Nice thoughts to ring out the old and usher in the new, Balroop. May the spirit of giving inform all your relationships, to make you an equal recipient of others’ giving. Enjoy the festive week. All good wishes to you and yours for an immensely rewarding 2016…

  3. Hi Balroop,

What a lovely and empowering post, as we stand on the edge of a brand New Year.

    “What can we give?”

How many of us really make these words as part of who we are? Life’s travails and our intrinsic survival instinct in fact make us dwell much more in the opposite space viz. “What can we get?” But how many of us really realise that it is in the giving that we gain the maximum getting?

As I see it, one of the primary challenges that we as a species need to surmount to move into a new world is to learn and truly imbibe ‘What can we give?’

    1. Hi Shakti,

Thank you so much! I am glad this poem could reach you in such a special way. Your analysis is absolutely admirable as it looks at life in a very realistic manner. I agree with you Shakti, the race of accomplishing the best often blocks the virtuous part of our mind and also overpowers our heart.

That is precisely the reason we need each other’s perspectives and reminders in such a light-hearted manner. I appreciate your standing by to share such a lovely view. Thanks 🙂

    1. Hi Mani,

Thank you for hearing the echo…it will continue to reverberate even when there is no special occasion as the spirit of giving has got a universal appeal for all the times. 🙂

  4. Lovely post, Balroop. Sometimes people feel overwhelmed by the troubles of the world and helpless to make a difference. Your poem provides simple ways to make a huge difference in the lives of others. No excuse not to 😀

    1. Yes Diana, it is indeed simple to smile and be benevolent…only if we remember it, only if people get time…

Thank you for standing by to endorse these simple ways of caring 🙂

  5. I must admit this is the most profound poem I have read, so simple and subtle but so powerful in its meaning and messaging. The power of simplicity. The power of simple words but profound messaging. This little hope, this little kindness, this little positivity and this little happiness that give to others come backs to us in some form or the other and all are happiness is a function of how we behave with others, how we talk to others, how we treat others and how we communicate with others.

The power of gentle smiling, the power of tender touch, the power of silent listening and the power of honesty and wisdom…yes only those who know the art of giving and gifting can see the value of life and living in joy and pleasure.

Such a refreshing thought to end this year, this will keep lingering for the years ahead and such is fragrance of the thoughts that has been beautifully weaved into the words and embedded into our mind and soul.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead of the New Year.:D

    1. Hi Nihar,

Thank you so much for understanding the depth of my thoughts, yes so simple only if we give them a thought, only if we offer these simple gifts, which lie within our reach, only if we realise how much cheer they can add to the life of others.

Often we keep our thoughts and emotions secret, sharing them only with those we feel closer, probably due to the fear of being scoffed at…the unkind world makes us hold them and we are conditioned to smile judiciously. We have no time to listen patiently but these two gifts are always welcomed even by strangers!

I am delighted to know that the ‘fragrance’ of my thoughts has been liked by you…such a fantastic way of appreciation fills my heart with music! Thanks a ton and you too have a wonderful week 🙂

      1. You are right many times we underestimate the power of simplicity and get caught in whirlwind of complexity of life…simple gifts to simple words of appreciation makes all the difference. By nature we are reserved and conservative, only few are out spoken and who love to share their feelings and emotions without hesitation. Just by lending our ear and being little more patient and being little communicating and being able to understand other’s perspective changes the world around, but we all get lost in the big things and small things lesser attention.
Indeed the fragrance of the poem was very profound and it was fresh breathe of air and it was beautifully overwhelming…
Thanks so much for sharing such a lovely poem…:D

  8. Balroop, I may have mentioned this before but I am featuring bloggers who also have published books on Dec. 30th, there will be a post with one author who was chosen by the local county library to be purchased. I fill out for all of my friends who have written books, requisition slips for the library to buy them. I am just mentioning so you keep your eyes peeled. 🙂
Hope you have a lovely, peaceful new year in 2016, Balroop.

  9. Balroop, this poem is beautiful and well expressed.♡ The choice to give and care is very important to inform and suggest that we remember this as we turn the page on another year. It is never too late to make caring and sensitive changes, Balroop. So sorry, this lettering is very tiny on your post and I did not notice I misspelled your name. If you like, you could edit this on my first comment. Thank you. Smiles, Robin

  10. Hi Robin

Thank you so much for filling out my name, you are such an awesome friend.
Many thanks for liking this poem too and adding your perspective to the discussion. It is never too late to introduce positive changes to our life.
Yes, this theme of WordPress offers extremely small lettering but I am not very tech-savvy and don’t want the risk of changing this! 🙂

You too have a wonderful New Year dear friend 🙂 and stay blessed.

  11. And you are giving all of this to us, with every one of your words Balroop. Lovely way to show us that we, too, have the ability to give, in the most beautiful way.
Take care and enjoy the Holiday Season.

    1. Thank you Marie. It is very satisfying to know that my words are reaching the right hearts. Everyone has something special to offer and that’s why we learn from each other. Wishing you a Happy Happy 2016. 🙂

  12. Wonderful post Balroop, and I take from it something that I hope to integrate into the New Year, and that is of giving. It is powerful, both to the giver and receiver. Great words of wisdom and inspiration from you ~ which I’ve come to expect 🙂

  13. Hey Balroop,

You certainly have given me food for thought, to just give a little. I try to show a smile and share an ear over the internet. I loved the thought you have put into describing how we can share ourselves with others compassionately. On my good days I meet your words with ease. I believe we are to be of service to others.

    Thanks for a great poem.

    Rachel.
