Arrogant Autocrats

A drop of arrogance
Goes straight to the mind
It’s intoxication kills insightArrogance
Next, it attacks the eyes
Which fail to see others’ plight
It impairs the hearing
As they only hear what they like.

It also affects reasoning power
As all others in sight
Appear ‘fools’
‘Easy to manipulate.’
Puppets’, ready to dance
‘Dummies’, over eager to obey!

Arrogance accompanied by power
Creates insane authoritarians
Who think it is their right
To enslave all humanity
Who think they are always right.

Emotionally challenged, these
Arrogant autocrats fail to bond
With family, friends or employees,
As it is below their dignity to
Respect others’ self-esteem.

But he had more than just a drop
He had stumbled upon a draught!
So arrogance had wreaked havoc on
Whatever was left in his mind
All he could do was, install puppets
To dance to his tunes.

A self-proclaimed despot
This inebriated monster
Lives in a fools’ paradise.
He either disregards History
Or doesn’t have the IQ to understand
That Hitler was a loser!

  1. “All he could do was, install puppets
To dance to his tunes …”

Aarrghh, don’t get me started. Good word capture, Balroop. The patients are running the asylum.

  2. Agree with what you said to Bela, Balroop. This poem so speaks about the current times and about the past as well, as you alluded to in your last line. I like how you painted arrogance as something that seeps into every fibre of our body slowly – for instance sight and then our hearing and then touch. ‘To dance to his tunes.’ This about sums up those who are self-centred and seldom look at the bigger picture. It is always hard to achieve when one is arrogant, and when comes push to shove for them, they will shove real hard and other around them will unfortunately feel the consequences. Let’s hope the world will be less arrogant and work together for the greater good as we look ahead. Beautiful poem from you book and keep writing 🙂

    1. All the words and observations come from experience Mabel, as I have met many and seen them from closer angles 🙂
In fact I have already written a lot about them as you could see the links at the end of this post. Thanks for your lovely words, love your support.

  3. Wow. Did you ever capture the current state of affairs, Balroop. This fits the present day just as well as the day you wrote it. I love the outrage in your words! Well done.

    1. Thank you Diana…the kind of person I had in my mind was more outrageous than my words. I am glad I could escape the situation and didn’t care for the financial loss. 🙂

  4. Incredible insight and prose here Balroop. After reading you’d written this awhile back, I was astounded to find how current it is to the current state of affairs. 🙂

  5. Hi Balroop,

So well written, as always 🙂

You are right in all that you worded here – the amount of negativity arrogant people spread is immeasurable- best to keep aways from them, isn’t it?

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    1. Hi Harleena,
Thanks for sharing your view. I agree with you…the simplest solution is to keep away but sometimes they are knitted in the fabric of your relationships and keep bumping in you 🙂 hope you are having a wonderful week.

  6. Arrogance it seems is flourishing within the elite once again .. This timeless piece holds true for today and those whose outer appearance hides “This inebriated monster”, who” Lives in a fools’ paradise.”
But we are no longer the fools… they think we are..

A powerful poem Balroop….. Sending LOVE and PEACE. May we unite in our thinking to cut such puppeteers strings XXXX ❤

    1. What a lovely perspective Sue! Let them think what they do…we emerge wiser and bless them for their inanity. Thanks for spreading the messages of peace and love…they do matter. Love and hugs dear friend.

  7. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a couple of arrogant folks at my workplace. They are hated by everybody…it’s only because of the numbers they pull through that they are continuing!

  8. Whaou Balroop you wrote a powerful piece of poetry. So true and terribly sad. History seems to repeat itself every day. When do we learn the lessons of the past?
Thank you for sharing. Stay well and blessed.

  9. This is such a powerful poem, my friend. Truly resonated with me … given the political circumstances in many countries and the increasing tensions between North Korea and USA.
“Arrogance accompanied by power Creates insane authoritarians Who think it is their right To enslave all humanity
Who think they are always right”—> those verses sum it up! … Thanks for raising awareness, dear Balroop…
    Much love & best wishes. 😀 ❤

  10. Thank you Aqui, I am glad you found this poem powerful…the present scenario around us is grim precisely due to the arrogance of leaders who were expected to be responsible and kind. I guess some of them don’t want to learn from history…so unfortunate!
Thanks for the wishes and love, back to you. Stay blessed!

  11. Arrogant autocrats have ruled and ruined the world to become what it is today. Beautiful portrayal of how arrogance belittles everything it encounters and aspires to rule with the ballot or the bullet.
More power to your mighty pen, Balroop!
