Signs – #Writephoto

Signs

That moment…
When signs transform into reality
When acceptance seems sole support
When togetherness comes with a caveat.

That moment…
When we miss the signs of love
Neglect, indifference, brutality
Combined with weird wangle,

Simmering opinions, deep divide
Miles away yet together
Your own life being precious
So it seems.

Trophies of a hunter,
Now we adorn the wall
Proudly we display the love
The accomplishment and triumph!

  1. Strongly and beautifully written poem about a relationship that now has become a falsehood. ”
When togetherness comes with a caveat.” .
    ” Trophies of a hunter,
    Now we adorn the wall”

Your emotional strength shows also in this poem as an answer to a prompt.
    Miriam

    1. Thank you so much Miriam, for picking up the emotional streak that lingers behind the lines I penned in a hurry. I am feeling satisfied that I could keep the real meaning hidden as that makes a poem worth interpretation. 🙂

  2. Another emotional poem that speak the truth, Balroop. It seems to speak to me of regret and taking things for granted those around us. I had a bit of a hard time understanding the last stanza of the poem, though. It sounds rather upbeat. To me, I interpreted it as what we’ve hunted and what we’ve sought in the past are sweet memories today in the present – and we can only look back fondly on those moments and be thankful for what we’ve experienced 🙂 Or maybe I got this totally wrong 😀

    1. A poem is open to all interpretations and I am amazed at your positive take but the last stanza mocks at the love that never was and consequences or circumstances that bring us together in death – same for all.
Thanks for your lovely reflections dear Mabel. Stay blessed.

  3. Beautifully written B. It reminds me to trust my intuition. There are signs everywhere, we must learn to tune in to recognize them. 🙂 x

  4. Whew, I thought you wrote this one for me, Balroop. I realize that is a self centred reaction 😀 It’s also a sign that your writing is speaking to me. Wangle—oh, I know some people who make a living from wangling weirdly, or wildly. Fabulous poem to an image. Well done!

    1. Thank you Lisa for sharing your most secret thoughts, I can understand them quite well. You were brave enough to escape such a person! Self-love is no longer considered selfish, slowly I have learnt this fact. 🙂

    1. Thanks Diana…not for some, for many love is much different than the usual connotation in modern times. Blessed are those who understand what is love. 🙂

  5. Balroop, this is a terrific response to a most unusual prompt image – I must admit I find it slightly disturbing. Your poem raises the disquiet and unease of a love that must be paraded, owned, where a caveat is placed upon it. Alas, this is the reality for many…wonderfully penned, my friend. 😃❤️

    1. The prompt is undoubtedly most unusual and Sue is well-known for evocative prompts! Love has many forms…one of them is as dark as touched upon here, in these lines. Thanks for the encouraging words Annika. 🙂

  6. Excellent poem… Signs might refer to things and emotions…. and many times we miss the hidden message, that´s true… However I guess life and experiences are once again the best teachers… at least when it comes to reveal those meanings!…. Sending much love, dear Balroop! 😀

  7. What do you think about hunting? I have an uncle who hunts practically every week. He grew up as a boy hunting. But it seems so sad to me. I can’t imagine taking that life. (And yet I eat meat — helps when I forget where it comes from.)

  8. Hunting is as old as a caveman, the initial source of satiating hunger yet it evokes a feeling of revulsion. I have a nephew who hunts and I could never appreciate the mound of ducks he exhibits proudly in his pics.

    1. Yeah, I feel kind of torn about the whole thing. Thanks for your thoughts. Always curious to hear what insightful people have to say on questions I’ve grappled with.

  9. Coming from a small town, and a hunter too, I see both those who have a deep love and appreciation for what life/love brings…but it is the other side which to be worried about. Those who only seek the trophies, a superficial merit in life. This poem of yours is wonderful.

    1. Thank you Randall, I love your analysis, so well compressed within few words. Many thanks for that. ‘superficial merits’ is just the right expression! 🙂

  10. A timely post we need to read your wonderful inspired words dear Balroop… The ‘Signs’ are indeed there for us all to see… We humans all to often in life go after Trophies, and adornments, to show others the amount of success of achievement gained ..
When in reality when we turn the other way, and neglect to assist or accept others, those Trophies are worthless in comparison for the ones that through Unity, and Silence in their giving of themselves in service of others.. Who go around their day wanting no reward..
When the Signs knock upon our doors… We are reminded that we are being shown Life is enriched not by the material /trophies we gather. but by the love and deeds done from the heart…
Beautiful Poem Balroop 🙂 ❤ just beautiful

    1. Signs are always there Sue…they continue to remind us of fake achievements, arrogance of wielding power over the weak and the helpless yet who cares! Nature has her own unique way of sending messages, boulders of life block our path, sending signals of doom yet selfish pursuits never cease!
Many thanks for adding your insights dear Sue, the depth of your words have given another dimension to this poem. Stay blessed and have a wonderful weekend.

      1. Yes our Earth Mother is indeed making herself heard.. And I doubt if many will listen until it is too late..
Love and Blessings dear friend.. It is always a pleasure for me to read your words..
You are indeed wise.. xxx ❤

  11. Yes, that image. Having lived in Maine for 34 years, I saw many (too, too many) tropies. Both on the wall and neglected in the woods – antlers hacked off a noble animal whose body was left for carrion. We are such a species. Capable of the most beautiful and brilliant and also the most terrible. Loved your reflections, Balroop ❤

    1. Thanks Bela, I too have seen many antlers adorning the walls, a mute spectacle of man’s ruthlessness. You have rightly summed up the nobility of man. 🙂

  12. Wow, Balroop, this hit me hard. Trophy hunting exemplifies such a disregard for the life of sentient beings. Weird wangle indeed. I’d love to see this poem in an animal rights anthology ♥

  13. Wonderful poem, Balroop, with so much being said. “Togetherness and Caveat” stood out for me, especially in these troubled times. It’s too bad Love couldn’t simply stand up and say, “OK, it’s all about me now, and no argument!” 🙂 Beautiful writing and profound thoughts, Lauren
