Draped by a fearless felicity
That defines my ebullient spirit
I could tread treacherous trails
Eager to take in the gales.

Each new path beckons me
Promising joy and thrill
Of adding another folio
To the cryptic book of life.

Pages that stand out are self-written
They smile and glow with our ventures
Infusing delight all around for self-quenchers.

The Palm Islands of Dubai, considered to be the 8th wonder of the world is one of the most popular destinations to explore. An eloquent example of superb engineering and affluence, The Palm Islands are man-made marvels, created in the Persian Gulf to expand Dubai’s coastline. They are shaped like a palm tree and their shape can only be seen from an elevated place.

We didn’t take the long route of going to the Palm Gateway Monorail Station to take the Monorail upto the top, to view the major landmarks like themed hotels, Aquaventure Waterpark, Dolphin Bay and the Aquarium because the real thrill lies in viewing the magnificence of man-made palm shape, which cannot be seen from the surface.

After much research and review reading, I came across The Observatory Bar and Grill, which is situated on the 52nd floor of Marriott Harbour Hotel. My excitement doubled to know that this restaurant offers panoramic views of The Palm Jumeriah and Dubai Marina along with delectable food.

We booked our table for lunch well in advance to be greeted with smiles and were ushered into the magnificient lobby divided into three segments. Most of the tables were laid by the massive windows through which we could look down at the astounding azure landscape, dominated by palm shape, created by incredible planning of master minds.

An amateur photographer in me was too excited to take as many shots as possible but none of them could capture the whole shape of the so called islands. We couldn’t take our eyes off the serene scenario while we enjoyed the drinks of our choice. Delicious food added an extra zing to my senses! We carried another string of unforgettable memories, shimmering in our souls.

    To the exciting tale of how Palm Island came to be. I know people who have been there and praised it but no one
    had told how it came to be. Co-operation between man and nature.

    1. You are right Miriam, they stand tall just because of Mother Nature’s kindness. There have been some environmental issues too and the amount of sand and rocks that have been dumped in the sea to create the base has met with criticism. Thanks for liking the poem. 🙂

    The Palm Islands look amazing from the top! These are amazing photos and it looked like luck was on your side that it was a sunny day with blue skies. Probably like how you imagined it, or even better 😀 It might be man-made, but from the top it looks like a massive marvel, a creation borne of thought, patience and creativity. To be honest, it looks like a lovely sea view that rivals what we have here in Australia, lol.

  5. The structure is a sheer delight to see from the plane (I’ve seen some shots). I am yet to go to Dubai, but your find on the bar is a good one, which would help me.

  11. There’s no doubt that Palm Is. is one of the most sought after places along with Burj. I’m sure that must have been a lunch with some view! I’m not sure if you have ever tried panorama shots with your cellphone, you’ll be able to capture a wide angle shot!

    1. Yes arv, panorama pics do give a wider view but they narrow down the length, which doesn’t appeal much to me. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your expertise.

  21. Indeed Balroop, I couldn’t agreed more. I keep going to Dubai and all your words meets my experience and a place where we see a different world and the way magic is created from now where and every structure and the spread of things make our experience truly memorable.

    When you are sitting in such a vantage pint and have a panoramic view to tantalize your senses, thoughts, emotions and words are at perfect play, and your poem crafts it so well and it only drive us to go there and live our imagination. The pictures are beautifully captured and it speaks volumes and it is indeed enticing and the visual extracts are captivating to say the least.

    It is all in their aspirations and there they have demonstrated the power of man-made structure…Dubai is always a travelers paradise, if you have a soft corner towards shopping then you are trapped and we have so much to do and so much to see and enjoy.

    Great to be little nostalgic and going back to those memories.
