Dreams #PoetryChallenge #Tanka

Theme-based poetry kicks my muse hard and when the theme happens to be “Dreams,” she rides on the waves, eager to explore each one. I tried to restrict her to one Tanka but another one just flowed. She has more in her pockets but I have reserved them for my next book.

A box full of dreams
She carries it with poise
Some just flutter away
Catching them is unrealistic
What is the fun of cluttering?

***

She buried her dreams
In the valley of despair
The deluge of tears
Drowned the irresistible
Empty-hearted, she sits forlorn.

Deeper #Tanka

Sue Vincent’s #writephoto

A portal beckons
Adventurous spirit calls
Fears forbid next step
Yet we drop down to explore
Will we return to share?

The secrets lay bare
Harrowing, endless steps loom
Fiery eyes threaten
Entrenched within crevices
Shady shackles pull us tighter.

Abandoned princess
Sits by the dark pond, ordained
To usher in light
Her tresses create that magic
The dilemma of drenching haunts.

Dendrophilous dame
Held captive by clawed tentacles
Enigmatic entity

A statue comes alive
When darkness encompasses her
Spiritual sojourn

Thank you Colleen and Diana for choosing this compelling image that instantly pulled me into this challenge.

Crescent

crescent-moon
Sue Vincent’s #Writephoto

Crescent is complacent
It knows its glorious glimmer
Would wilt the transient cover
Of clouds that may seem threatening
Sun whispers hope.
~

I could hear the melodies
Of crescent moon that hung above
Darkness melted with the lilting sound
That merged in the symphony of sun
I chose life.
~

Skeptical of stepping
Into the wider world of hope
Where darkness disturbed the quiet
She stood rooted to the threshold
Shackled by false safety.
~

If the night was dark
A new day is smiling at the horizon
You hug clouds but I look at the sun
The harbinger of new hues
That speak of life.

Celebrating 100th #Poetrychallenge with Colleen

Poetry challenge rules have always intimidated me but I would like to grab this golden opportunity of celebrating with Colleen whose weekly poetry challenge has accomplished 100th milestone and she has given a free choice of words to write a Tanka.

Tanka about self judgment

My inner critic loves
To reprimand softly but passionately
A sentinel of emotions
Who apprises me of the progress
Made on the arch of consciousness.

Freedom is the mother of inspiration. Thank you dear Colleen, I am still learning to write Tanka, Haiku and Senryu, one step at a time.
